Occupational License

Please be advised that the City of Falmouth adopted a new occupational tax ordinance on May 7, 2026. These changes will affect businesses operating within the city limits and will become effective in accordance with the ordinance provisions.

The new ordinance includes the following changes:

The occupational license fee structure has been revised to a graduated schedule based on each business’s prior-year gross receipts. The license year runs from July 1 to June 30. For the first license year beginning July 1, 2027, businesses will pay an annual flat fee according to the following scale: $50 for gross receipts up to $100,000, increasing by $50 for each additional $100,000 in gross receipts. All businesses in their first year will pay the minimum fee of $50 and will reconcile any additional amount due at the end of that year based on actual receipts. Renewal applications must include documentation of gross receipts from the preceding year, such as federal tax forms or a certified affidavit. Temporary or weekend businesses may obtain a short-term license for a flat fee of $15 per event.
